One Viewpoint

Life has a way of twisting us
into shapes we cannot see
from the inside out,

so we assume we appear
as we were
before the twisting began.

We can ask what’s wrong
but never receive
a satisfactory answer

for no matter how hard we try
we can only see ourselves
from the inside out.

What we think is normal
isn’t normal at all,
but we keep plowing down
 a crooked row,

planting seeds of discord
wherever we go
then wiping beads of shame
from our brow.

Tipping Point

A nation in question,
a city locked down and glued
to the manufacturers
of fear and speculation

and if this isn’t what we want
than what do we want?
After all, we certainly love it
in the movies and on TV.

Mostly fictional of course,
but when do the scales tip
and it all just becomes
too much?

* * *

I think the uncle got it right, just a couple of losers, monsters no doubt,
but if the news media can pin it on some overseas plot
than we can all return to our abnormal sense of normality.

Sad-eyed, the President said,
"it was a shameful day for Washington"

but wasn't it really
just another normal, disappointing day for Washington?

Fact is
these arrogant fools are just fools
and the real shame is upon us
who follow and vote for these fools.

Wisdom Lost

Mother says to her bullied son,
"if you hit them back, like them you'll become".
Father says nothing

and the world moves on
and all the perpetrators write memoirs, get richer,
and hold tight to the illusion of power.

Sacred Cow

“Hey!” the Pres. said, “I'm not agreeing with them,
I'm just compromising with them
and let's face it,
a three-legged cow is better than a dead cow”.

In the Deep

We live in an age of consequences
but many still think it is yet to come,
yelling ‘whoa horse’ mid air, too late,
falling they fall into the deep

where laws are made after the facts
and precautions are taken too late for show
and there they all go again,
drowning in the depths of their solutions.

In the Dark

In a cave dark and foreboding
god emerged to save us from our fear,
so we decided to stay in the dark
lest our god should disappear.

* * *

I never thought I’d live
to see the day
an armed guard’s presence
 the only way
to save our children from ourselves.

Seems barbaric, a step back,
a Nazi solution
for the peace that we lack.
