Once upon a time there was this pomegranate tree and we both loved pomegranates so we climbed up on the stone wall, reached over into someone’s backyard and started picking and eating pomegranates. After eating a dozen or so pomegranates a piece we climbed back down and went home and puked red pomegranate stuff all evening long. Mom and dad were aghast till I confessed our sin then they laughed and I have never eaten a pomegranate since and I’m thankful I can still make that decision for myself but I see a day coming when even that might be taken away and I'm forced to eat pomegranates everyday.

Check-out Line
I punched in my code
but the platform had changed
and I had to rearrange
myself again,
and again, and then
I thought,
‘what good is the new
when it’s worst than the old’
and then I was told
to try again.

Aftermath
Tidal metaphors
seem so, so appropriate
but a smile will do.
*
All of life reduced
to a small digital screen,
the ultimate goal.
*
When the objectives
out run the applications
both soon fade away.
*
My aim is haiku
without all the nature stuff,
soon irrelevant.
