invasion of the money snatchers
(haiku)

like a sci-fi film
sometimes we're allowed to see
thru their human guise

these reptilian,
cold blooded money snatchers
robbing the world blind

for prosperity!
they always insist and hiss,
it's for our own good

like we're one of them
but they are out for their own
and we are the prey

only on tv
(haiku)

i don't see fortunes
being pursued everyday
except on tv

i don't see drama
unfolding at every turn
except on tv

i don't see happy
beaming for every purchase
except on tv

i don't see greatness
being delivered as hoped
except on tv

simple haiku

if we fight our way
to the top of the mountain
we deserve some praise

but if we're lifted
to the top of the mountain
we are just tourists

*

i see it quite clear
the world is a carnival
filled with attractions

there's the killing rides
and of course the holy rides
both are exciting

both time consuming
the carnival's great purpose
to waste time away

Keeping My Mind
(haiku)

I don't watch debates.
I watch rented films instead.
It's the healthy choice.

I don't talk to fools.
Life's too short to waste on fools.
I smile and move on.

I glance at headlines.
They rarely contain the truth.
They are meant to grab

what belongs to me,
my emotion and my mind.
They deserve neither.

Nothing's New Under the Sun

If you think you're an individual
saying something new and original
you probably have not heard it yet
in a sitcom, song or commercial.

The Never Ending Protest
(haiku)

Protest all you want.
It's the American way.
It changes little.

Aftermath's the same.
Streets littered with broken glass
that cuts their own feet.

All it ever does
is increase the police force
they protest against.

*

In a white tower
they chuckle among themselves
and say, 'not again!'.

All That Matters
(haiku)

Though out my whole life
I thought all these things mattered
when they never did.

My need to be right.
My quest for love and money.
Change above all else.

Now in my old age
I can without a doubt see
none of that matters.

*

Final consensus.
All that we think important
rarely ever is.

Photo Album

It's all soon forgotten.
Whole chapters amount to nothing.
A selfie here, a selfie there,
A still life collection
that's suppose to mean something.

Dead eyes stare back
from glossy paper, screen or coffin.
Frozen in time these glimpses,
Added together resemble
A dream we thought we were living.

Retirement
 (haiku)

I wake up happy.
I turn on television
and despair sets in.

I turn off the set
and turn on my computer.
New despair begins.

I go to the store
and then to the library.
I wander a lot.

I have resources.
I could go around the world
but I never will.

I go to sleep tired.
I dream of days of glory.
I wake up happy.

So Much Anger
(haiku)

I just don't get it.
Anger has no place in me
for things I can't change.

I walk to the store.
People will usually smile
as I walk on by.

People look happy.
They might live in a bubble
but they look happy.

I turn on TV
and then all of a sudden
I see the anger.

Great Delusion
(haiku)

They should put warnings
on every damn commercial.
Hazardous to Health.

*

Politicians too
should come with warning labels.
Hazardous to Brains.

*

Our cup overflows
and the result is a mess
we'll never clean up.

How It Happens

You spend a few decades dumbing the masses down
with commercialism, hi-tech, special effects and wishful thinking
and we the people, the government, will choose representation
that best reflects our ignorance.

Stupid By Choice
(haiku)

Stupid is like snow
balls rolling down steep inclines
gaining momentum.

My only real hope.
Stupid doesn't become crazy
as it gathers speed.

But that's stupid too
because stupid is crazy
when it need not be.

Real Politics
(haiku)

The biggest error
is assuming The People
are intelligent.

*

Say something stupid
and you'll gain a multitude
almost overnight

but say something smart
and people will think you are
utterly crazy.

Haiku

I hear syllables.
Words broken down in segments
that fit my world view.

Three and four are best.
Five or more present problems.
One and two are free.

If it can't be said
in seventeen syllables
it's not worth saying.
